Magnet Program

    The Lamar School of Business Administration is a unique college-preparatory program with courses designed or students with an interest in all areas of business. Students enroll in one business course each year.
    • 9th and 10th grade courses are by assignment
    • 11th and 12th grade students have a variety of courses from which to choose including: IB Economics, IB Business, and IB Computer Science
    All Lamar students are a part of the International Baccalaureate Programme. Magnet students are required to pursue the IB Diploma.

    Acceptance to the Business Administration Magnet Program is based on 7th grade grades and standardized test scores.

    Only incoming 9th grade students are eligible. Magnet students must attend a two-week Summer Academy in June.


    Eligibility: Applicant should submit a complete Magnet application (Link to HISD application).  If the student was enrolled in an HISD school during the 7th grade, no support documents are needed.  If the student was enrolled in a non-HISD school during the 7th grade, the following items must be uploaded to the on-line application:

    • Final grade report from 7th grade
    • 7th and 8th grade standardized test reports STAAR, Stanford, Iowa, CAT, ERB, etc.
