    What is Lacrosse?

Lacrosse is North America’s most ancient team sport. Sometimes called “the fastest game on two feet,” lacrosse was originally played by the Native American tribes of the Iroquois nations. It’s a game that has the physicality of football, the flow and play-making of basketball, the hand-eye skill of baseball, and the endurance of track. It’s a game of speed, spontaneity, teamwork, and fun. At Lamar, we emphasize a quick-hitting, fast-breaking style of play with lots of creativity.

    Why play Lacrosse at Lamar?

First, lacrosse is just plain fun. Second, it’s a team sport, so you’ll make friends and learn the valuable lessons of teamwork. Third, lacrosse develops athletic versatility and agility. We encourage all of our lacrosse players to play other sports—lacrosse provides an excellent athletic foundation for the well-rounded athlete.

If you want to have fun, make friends, and develop your athleticism, then WELCOME TO LAMAR LACROSSE!

Regular Season and Fall Training/Open Tryouts:

The Lacrosse season begins in January and runs until early May. The team plays a schedule of approximately 12+ games against other schools in the Houston area. During the regular season, we have daily practices from 5:10PM to 6:45PM. During the fall, we practice three times a week (tentatively Mon, Tue, Wed).

    Facilities—

    Lamar and South Campus:

Lamar Lacrosse has access to the synthetic turf field at Lamar, although access may be limited depending on the schedule of other Lamar teams. The lacrosse team also has access to three beautiful natural grass fields at South Campus (3600 West Bellfort).

    Participation:

Since its formation in 1988, the Lamar Lacrosse team has followed the principle that any student wanting to participate would be allowed, and no student would be turned away because they could not afford equipment or team fees. Because lacrosse is not funded by HISD/UIL, we are a club sport. This means we are completely self-funding and rely heavily on volunteers and encourage lots of parent support.

    Eligibility and PE Credit:

All members of the team are subject to the UIL Eligibility rules governing “no pass, no play”. In order to compete, students have to be in good academic standing just like any student in one of the Lamar varsity programs. Upon completing certain forms, team members can receive PE Credit for participation in Lamar lacrosse.
