The goal of the Lamar Tennis program is to provide a fun and competitive environment that enables student-athletes to participate in a sport that is as enjoyable as it is challenging. We look to develop our tennis skills while enjoying team camaraderie. The friendly, good-natured competitive spirit of our tennis players makes the Lamar tennis program a great way to build lasting friendships and personal pride, but above all compete on the state level yearly.
Tennis is a year-round sport beginning in the fall semester with team tennis. The varsity team plays against other area high school teams with most matches scheduled after school. Lamar varsity team tennis won the District 18- 6A Team Tennis Championships in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017. Also in 2017, Lamar advanced to the semi-finals of the Region III Championships and finished 3rd, we hope to be ranked in Texas-6A Team Tennis for 2017-18.
In the spring semester, varsity and junior varsity players compete individually in either singles or doubles at all day tournaments. At the 2017 District Championships, Lamar varsity swept all but boys Singles. The varsity girls also received special recognition for winning the most number of matches as a team. Our highest accomplishment yet came at the 2014 Regional Championships, the Mixed Doubles team of Emily Chen '14 and John Milstead '15 finished No. 1 as Regional Champion and advanced to the State 6A Championships. In 2017 Braedon Ho and Vesko Lekovic advance to the Region III 6A Finals. We look to continue our great success each year.
