Cluster Leader

Conference Periods: 4th and 8th 

Mrs. Vélez earned her bachelor’s degree in English as a Second Language (ESL) at the University of Puerto Rico Humacao Campus. She completed her master’s degree in ESL at the University of Turabo at Gurabo, Puerto Rico.  

Mrs. Velez was an English teacher in Puerto Rico for five years and has been a Burbank Eagle since 2015. She enjoys teaching ESL students and loves to see them grow. Mrs. Vélez teaches the Newcomer students, who depend on her to teach them to communicate in English. This is her fifth year as the cluster leader of the 6^th Grade Dual Language Academy. 

Among the distinctions she has received as an educator, she was elected Burbank Middle School ESL Teacher of the Year in 2018-2019 and again in 2021-2022, when she was also a finalist for HISD's ESL Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Vélez’s goal as an educator is to inspire her students to enjoy reading. She wants to broaden their outlook and horizons, enhance their imaginations, and help them achieve their goals.
