Dear Burbank Parents and Students,

First and foremost, I hope that everyone is healthy and safe.  As you have seen in the news and on the HISD website, we will begin this school year virtually due to the ongoing COVID – 19 Pandemic.  In preparation for the upcoming school year, here is some important information I would like to share with you.

Academic Calendar: Here is a timeline for the re-opening dates:

    • September 8, 2020: First day of school (Virtual only)
    • October 19, 2020: Face-to-face instruction begins*
    • September 8, 2020 – January 29, 2021: First semester of remote learning for students/parents who choose online-only instruction.

*Parents will have the option to choose remote instruction for the fall semester (through January 29, 2021) or entire school year (through June 11, 2021).

The entire Academic Calendar is at 2020-2021 Academic Calendar .

For more detailed information regarding the reopening, please visit HISD Reopening.

Remote Learning:  HISD and Burbank will continue to use Microsoft Teams and the HUB as the platforms for remote teaching, learning, and posting of assignments.  Click Microsoft Team Download  to download the app for your computer. Click Log In to HUB to go to the HUB (must have HISD student access).

School Hours and Remote Learning Schedule:  School hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Prior to the start of school, Burbank will communicate with students and parents a schedule for remote learning.

Grades:  Unlike the end of last school year, this year all grades will count and participation in online learning is mandatory.  Students who do not complete assignments will receive a zero for any missing assignments.  These grades will be calculated in the student’s final average for the year.

Attendance:  Attendance and participation in remote learning will be mandatory.  Attendance will be taken daily.  Students will be expected to log in on a daily basis, interact with their teachers, and complete assignments in order to be counted as present.  Students with less than 90% attendance are in danger of being retained at the end of the school year.

Technology Distribution: Technology distribution will begin the week of August 17th and will continue until the start of school.  Any incoming 6th grade student that borrowed technology from their elementary school must return the borrowed technology to the elementary school before being eligible to receive a device from Burbank. 7th and 8th Graders that received a device from Burbank last year should keep their device.  It should only be returned if it needs replaced or repaired.

Technology Distribution Hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will take place along the east side of the building where students are picked up and dropped off. Please click Tech Distribution Schedule and FAQ for detailed information and the most frequently asked questions about the distribution.

Internet Access: For students who need internet access, we will do our best to supply hot spots. However, there are only a limited number of hotspots available. We strongly recommend families obtain their own internet service. Please check out these links for some various options for internet services as low as $10.00 per month.

Registration/Enrollment:  Until further notice, all registration and enrollment will be done electronically. In order to enroll a student, the following must be scanned and emailed to our registrar, Ms. Betancourt, at RBetanc2@houstonisd.org

    1. Parent/Guardian’s ID
    2. Student’s Birth Certificate
    3. Student’s shot record
    4. Proof of address in the form of a current gas or light bill, or a current lease in the parent/guardian’s name.
    5. For students that are new to the district, the last report card showing promotion status to the current grade level.
    6. Click Registration/Enrollment Form to download the enrollment form. Please complete, scan, and email to the registrar with the rest of the required documents.

Students who attended Burbank last year in the 6th or 7th grade will automatically be re-enrolled in 7th and 8th grade this year.  Incoming 6th graders will automatically be enrolled if Burbank is listed as their zoned school on their last report card.  If a student is new to HISD or recently moved into the school zone of Burbank, registration will be necessary.  To check enrollment status please email Ms. Betancourt at RBetanc2@Houstonisd.org
