Samantha Galloway
Samantha Galloway—Houston Academy for International Studies
Samantha Galloway plans to attend Texas A&M University in College Station this fall, where she will study nuclear engineering and mathematics. She attended Sinclair Elementary and Hamilton Middle schools before graduating from HAIS. She lists her favorite subject as mathematics, and in her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, and going to comic book stores.
Galloway is member of her school’s National Honor Society and Robotics team. She is also active in University Interscholastic League activities, and she serves as an intern with Halbouty Energy, a specialty petrochemical company that produces and supplies a broad range of chemicals for the oil industry. An article of Galloway’s appeared in the company’s January/February 2014 issue of NSIDE.
Jonathan LizarondoJonathan Lizarondo—Houston Academy for International Studies
Jonathan Lizarondo attended The Rice School before coming to the Houston Academy for International Studies. He plans to study petroleum engineering at the University of Houston this fall using the Academic Excellence Scholarship he received. Lizarondo will be receiving his associate’s degree in science from the Houston Community College simultaneously.
Lizarondo is a member of the robotics team, chess team, Football Club, and Basketball Club. He lists his favorite subject as mathematics, and he has been recognized for his performance in math as well as English, chemistry, and science. In his free time, Lizarondo enjoys fishing and playing basketball, football, and video games.
