    Maya Iyer—Lamar High School

     

    Maya Iyer intends to study biological engineering at the University of Texas, Rice University, or Cornell University. She attended West University Elementary and Lanier Middle schools before coming to Lamar, where she has been active in Reading Aces (a literacy initiative), the Desi Club, and the Key Club.

     

    Iyer lists her favorite subject as biology, and some of her hobbies as reading, Bharathanatyam (Indian classical dance), and volunteering at the Houston Zoo. She is a member of the National Honor Society and her school’s orchestra. She has been recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar and an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor.

    Jiaying Han—Lamar High School

     

    Jiaying Han attended Roberts Elementary and Pershing Middle schools before graduating from Lamar. She has been active in the Philosophy Club and served as historian of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Chinese Club, and vice president of InterAct (a service club affiliated with Rotary International).

     

    Han plans to pursue a degree in business and/or economics from the University of Texas using the Top Ten Percent Scholarship she received. She lists her favorite subject as mathematics, and some of her interests as volunteering and watching basketball.
