    Michael Gonzalez—Sam Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center

    Michael Gonzalez plans to study biomedical engineering at the University of Texas using the Reliant, Project GRAD, and the POSSE Foundation scholarships he received. A product of HISD, he attended Moreno Elementary and Fonville middle schools. Gonzalez lists his favorite subject as calculus, and he enjoys running, playing video games, and building things in his spare time.

    Gonzalez has been active on the basketball, football, track and field, and cross-country teams. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Robotics Club, and the Science and Engineering Club. He has been recognized as Most Valuable Runner, Most Improved Runner, and Academic Athlete of the Year.

    Yeiglin Escalante—Sam Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center

    Yeiglin Escalante plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Houston. She attended Janowski Elementary and Burbank and Fonville Middle schools before enrolling at SHMSTC, and she lists her favorite subject as mathematics.

    Escalante is an Honor Roll student who has been active in and recognized through University Interscholastic League and Skills USA competitions. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the cross country team. When not studying, Escalante enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family.
