    Melissa Martinez—Waltrip High School

    Melissa Martinez plans to pursue a degree in biology with a concentration in neuroscience at Amherst College, where she will use the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship she received. She has served as president of the Spanish Club and captain of the varsity soccer, cross country, and track and field teams. She is also active in GeoFORCE, Students Taking Action Not Drugs, Health Occupation Students of America, and Club 6 (which requires members to earn six math credits by graduation).

    Martinez lists her favorite subject as mathematics. She has been recognized for her outstanding performance in botany, behavioral science, history, and writing. She was also named an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction and a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar. She attended Kennedy Elementary and Clifton Middle schools before coming to Waltrip. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, writing poetry, and participating in sports activities.

    Tulshi Patel—Waltrip High School

    Tulshi Patel will be attending the University of Texas at Austin this fall to pursue a degree in chemical engineering. She is a member of her school’s National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Health Occupation Students of America. She is also active on the volleyball, swim, dance, and soccer teams.

    Patel lists her favorite subjects as science and mathematics. She received instruction at Wainwright Elementary and Clifton Middle schools before coming to Waltrip. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, exercising, and watching movies. Patel has been recognized for her outstanding performance in history competitions. She is also the recipient of POSSE Foundation, Imperial Guard, and Magnet Scholarships.
