    Arielle Watson—Yates High School

    Arielle Watson plans to attend either Howard University or the University of Southern California, where she will study broadcast journalism. She has been recognized for her performance in cheerleading and University Interscholastic League (UIL) competitions in poetry and prose. Watson enjoys acting, reading, and twirling batons in her spare time.

    Watson attended Longfellow Elementary and Pershing Middle schools before coming to Yates. She serves as president of the National Honor Society and editor-in-chief of the yearbook. She is also a member of the varsity cheerleading squad and the Journalism Club. Her favorite subject is mathematics.

    Ariel Cooper—Yates High School

    Ariel Cooper intends to study communications at the University of Texas using the Project GRAD and Black College Expo scholarships she has received. She attended Blackshear Elementary and Ryan Middle schools before coming to Yates. Cooper is a member of the National Honor Society and Steed Society. She has also been active on the varsity cheerleading squad and the varsity volleyball team.

    Cooper has been recognized for her exemplary performance in cheerleading by the National Cheerleaders Association. She was also named Miss Jack Yates in 2014. Cooper lists her favorite subject as English, and says she enjoys singing, blogging, and listening to music in her free time.
