What is Family Friendly School Certification? The Family and Community Engagement (FACE) department offers all HISD campuses the opportunity to opt-in to become certified as “Family Friendly School.” This research-based process will assist schools in building and improving relationships with their families and communities. Via analysis of the school environment, faculty and staff training, and coaching, schools learn to effectively collaborate with their communities to create a partnership culture that supports students’ academic success.
How will the Family Friendly School Certification benefit my campus?
Research indicates that when parents feel welcomed and appreciated at school, they tend to influence their children’s academics outcomes positively. “Family Friendly Schools” tend to have better academic results, fewer discipline issues, and better attendance rates. Becoming certified as a Family Friendly School can also benefit effectiveness and morale on your campus (Mapp et. al. 2007).
