A Texas-Sized Farewell to Dr. Lathan

Team HISD will take the opportunity to show our Texas-sized appreciation for Dr. Grenita Lathan’s six years of service in the Houston Independent School District. Dr. Lathan’s vision and leadership in HISD has served and impacted many students, teachers, leaders, parents and the community. Thanks to Dr. Lathan’s vision in HISD, we have:

• Successfully transitioned 92 percent of our schools to a passing grade under the state’s accountability system, with a high “B” rating
• Expanded pre-K access districtwide
• Launched mentorship programs to support boys and girls of color
• Expanded CTE programs and increased certification opportunities for graduates
• Served meals to thousands of students and families over the pandemic
• And so much more!

HISD Farewell Events for Dr. Grenita Lathan

• Texas-sized Farewell Salute live-streaming on the HISD website from 4 to 5 p.m.
• Farewell Car Parade (starting at 5:30 p.m.) outside Delmar Fieldhouse.
• Gather to line up in the Northwest Mall parking lot (side closest to the Shell gas station) as early as 4:30 p.m.
• Cars will be led out and along the parade route at 5:30 p.m.
• Cars arriving after the start time may join the line in the HMW parking lot. Upon entering the main entrance, turn left toward Delmar.
