  • Role Description

    The Canvas Champion (CCh) works to advance high impact instructional strategies aligned to the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) and HISD Effective Practices through the use of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) as well as the integration of technology-based practices to enhance teacher/student engagement, collaboration, and improve student outcomes.

    The primary focus is to lead campuses, through targeted teacher support, to enhanced technology integration levels of active, collaborative, constructive, authentic and goal-directed learning. CCh support effective integration of the Canvas LMS for accessing the district curriculum, digital resources, and student-facing lessons which increase student engagement and improve student outcomes.

    The CCh has evidence of

    • Improving student performance outcomes in their own classroom
    • Effective use of the Canvas platform
    • Instructional technology integration best practices
    • Serves as a model for other teachers on their campus

    As a result of ongoing support efforts, the CCh will be able to provide explicit evidence of their ability to improve the supported teachers’ practice.

  • Compensation and Requirements

  • Audience Candidates must be classroom teachers, appraised using TADS during the 2021-2022 school year and T-TESS in 2022-2023.
  • Qualifications Candidates must be rated in TADS as effective or highly effective (with all individual Instructional Practice Criteria of 3 or higher TADS rating).
  • Compensation CCh will receive up to $4,000 for completing program expectations

  • Applications are due by end of day May 29, 2022.

    The Career Pathways Team and AIT Department will review applications and share the candidate pool with each campus principal by May 20, 2022. Principals will select their Canvas Champion(s) from the candidate pool during the week of May 23.

  • Upcoming PD and Training

    Canvas Introduction to Canvas Learning Series

    Canvas Champions will be required to attend Canvas 101 through Canvas 105 sessions prior to summer training and onboarding. These live virtual workshops include modeling and guided practice of foundational skills to help you start strong with Canvas. Sessions will be held each Tuesday and Thursday through the end of May (excluding Focus weeks).

    Growing with Canvas

    As an alternative to the live virtual sessions, Canvas Champions may select to complete the Growing with Canvas asynchronous Canvas course. This self-guided training was developed as a series of self-paced modules that will lead participants through foundational and more advanced skills in Canvas.

    Additional Canvas practice as well as Career Pathways Teacher Leader onboarding will be held during the summer.
