The HISD Board of Education adopted a tax rate of $1.1331 per $100 of taxable value for tax year 2020 during its regular monthly meeting on October 8, 2020.
This rate includes a “maintenance and operations” component of $0.9664 and a “debt-service” component of $0.1667.
The 2020 HISD tax rate of $1.1331 is lower than last year's rate.
In compliance with Texas Property Tax Code Section 26.05(b) Houston Independent School District ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE.
Taxes may increase on a home if the appraisal district certified value of the home increased this year over last year.

If you have received an over 65 tax ceiling limitation certificate from the Harris County Appraisal District, please forward original certificate to the Harris County Tax Office or contact HCTO at 713-274-8000 and ask for the over 65 department.

- Additional exemption of $15,000 for homeowners age 65 and older, or disabled
