John Ward—Energized for STEM Academy (Central)
John WardJohn Ward, who lists his favorite subject as science, is a member of the Chess Club, the Book Club, and the Learning AFAR group (a student exchange program). He attended an elementary school in Spring Branch ISD and Johnson Middle School before coming to the E-STEM Academy.
Ward enjoys reading, practicing Brazilian JiuJitsu, and playing chess and the violin in his spare time. Although he received a full scholarship offer from the University of Texas at Dallas, the National Merit Scholar plans to pursue a degree in engineering at Grinnell College in Iowa.
Perla GonzalezPerla Gonzalez—Energized for STEM Academy (Central)
Perla Gonzalez enjoys dancing, volunteering, and performing community service projects. She has served as president of the Book Club and secretary of her senior class. She is also a member of the Math Club, the Science Club, and the Yearbook Committee. Gonzalez attended Almeda Elementary and Dowling Middle Schools before coming to E-STEM, where her favorite subject is science.
Gonzalez was named Student of the Year as both a junior and a senior. She is the recipient of a Metropolitan Scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and she has been recognized for her exemplary academic performance in science. Gonzalez plans to pursue a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Houston.
