About Houston

  • Why not Houston?

Houston is a great place to live and a great place to work. Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine ranked Houston as the #1 city based on quality of living for singles, professionals, and families. Recently Forbes magazine rated Houston as the #1 coolest city in the nation.

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) is the city’s largest employer, with 30,000 team members. Our goal is to make HISD the best public school district in the nation, and to reach that goal, we are taking bold actions and innovative approaches to increasing the life outcomes for our students. When our students thrive, our city and our nation grow stronger.
Here are just a few things Houston has to offer:
    • Fourth largest city in the United States
    • Energy capital of the world, home to companies as Shell Oil, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and El Paso Corporation
    • Home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world
    • Diversification into financial, biotechnology, and health sectors
    • Miles of hike-and-bike trails, 350 parks, and 200 open spaces
    • Numerous community recreation centers
    • Five major professional sports teams
    • A day in nature and a night on the town: Mountain biking through beautiful Memorial Park during the day, sunbathing on a beach in Galveston Island the afternoon, and a world-class theatre performance in downtown Houston at night.
