    Edith Solis lists history and government as her favorite subjects. She is active on her school’s Rocket Team and Business Professionals of America, and has served as a class officer as a freshman and junior. A product of HISD, she attended Cage Elementary and Lanier Middle schools before graduating from Eastwood.

     

    In her spare time, Solis enjoys running, teaching, and reading. She has been named an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction and has received Microsoft certification as a freshman. Solis plans to pursue a degree in political science at Rice University, from which she has already received a full scholarship. Solis is also the recipient of scholarships from the Hispanic Bar Association, Teach for America, and the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

    Marissa Gonzalez—Eastwood Academy

     

    Marissa Gonzalez plans to attend the University of Houston this fall, where she will pursue a degree in her favorite subject: art. She has received an Academic Excellence Scholarship from that institution, and she attended J. P. Henderson Elementary and The Rusk School before graduating from Eastwood. In her free time, Gonzalez enjoys sewing, painting, and writing.

     

    Gonzalez is a member of the Science Club, the Scrabble Club, and the Girls Empowerment Movement Society. She has been active in C-STEM activities, Creative Women Unite, and Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts. Gonzalez has earned a gold award at the regional level of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event, second place in a C-STEM writing competition, and honorable mention in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s art program.
