    Melanie Garza—Mount Carmel Academy

     

    Melanie Garza is a member of the National Honor Society and the volleyball team. She also serves as captain of her school’s cheerleading squad and softball team. Garza declines to list a favorite subject, but she plans to attend the University of Houston, where she will study pharmacological science.

     

    Garza has attended the Mount Carmel Academy for the past 12 years, since it was known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School and was not yet an HISD charter school. She is on the Principal’s Honor Roll and she has won awards for exemplary performance in English, chemistry, Spanish, algebra, softball, and cheerleading. In her spare time, Garza enjoys baking, dancing, and cheering.

    Yajaira Villareal—Mount Carmel Academy

     

    Yajaira Villareal, who declines to list a major, plans to attend the University of Houston or the University of Texas Pan America, both of which have already offered her scholarships. She has attended the Mount Carmel Academy for the past 12 years, since it was known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School and was not yet an HISD charter school. Her favorite subject is biology.

     

    Villareal is a member of the Go Green Club, the Spanish Club, and the Newman Club. She also serves as president of the National Honor Society. Villareal has been recognized for her outstanding performance in English, photojournalism, health, sociology, and a number of other subjects. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music and watching movies and baseball games.
