Debora Martinez
Debora Martinez—Sam Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center
Debora Martinez plans to attend the University of Houston and major in mathematics. She is active in University Interscholastic League activities and lists her favorite subjects as mathematics and social studies. In her spare time, Martinez enjoys swimming, reading, and photography.
Martinez attended Lyons Elementary and Fonville Middle schools before graduating from the SHMSTC. She is graduating early, after completing the requirements for her high school diploma in only three years, and she is the recipient of a Jones Scholarship from the Houston Endowment.
Emilio AlvaradoEmilio Alvarado—Sam Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center
Emilio Alvarado serves as vice president of the National Honor Society and battalion commander of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). He is also active in the Upward Bound program. Alvarado lists his favorite subject as mathematics and he plans to attend Texas A&M University, where he will study computer engineering. He has received scholarships from Project Grad Houston Texas A&M University, and the Posse Foundation.
Alvarado attended Sherman Elementary and a middle school in North Forest ISD before coming to SHMSTC. He has received awards for exemplary performance in French and JROTC, including the Purple Heart Leadership Award and Most Outstanding Cadet. In his spare time, Alvarado enjoys playing basketball, designing computers, and tutoring others in math.
