• Land High-Paying Jobs — While Still in High School

Scarborough students enrolled in the school’s Network and Computer Administration Academy are already experiencing some of the financial rewards from their hard work. Local IT companies, such as HostGator, are hiring several of them on the weekends for upwards of $20-$30 an hour.

    Hands-On Training in High-Demand Industries

Students at six HISD high schools — Furr, Kashmere, Long, Scarborough, Sterling, and Booker T. Washington — can enroll in Futures Academy programs, which provides career training as well as the opportunity to earn career certifications in some of Houston’s most thriving industries and a college associate’s degree.

The Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan is aligned with HISD’s prestigious DeBakey High School for Health Professions in the Texas Medical Center. Students have the opportunity to earn high school credits, explore pathways in health and biomedical science and become ready for challenging high school academic programs.

The Energy Institute High School focuses on Houston’s world-leading energy industry, representing the fields of geoscience, alternative energy, and offshore technology. HISD is expanding its existing partnership with the Independent Petroleum Association of America to enhance the school’s curriculum and instruction.

Earn Up to Two Years of College Credit

HISD’s Early College high schools give students an opportunity to earn an associate’s degree through a dual-credit program with Houston Community College. The program provides a significant savings for families since students can earn up to two years of college credit for free.
