Apply for Scholarship to Summer National Geographic Expedition by March 1

Program is open to all students in grades 9–12

January 18, 2012

National Geographic is offering young people a chance for adventure next summer through its Student Expeditions Program, which allows young people to follow in the footsteps of that organization's photographers, writers, and scientists by exploring the world.

Expedition

Students in grades 9–12 could explore the Alaskan coast by kayak, observe tortoises in the Galapagos, or study glaciers in Iceland, to name but a few options.

General admission for the tuition-based program is on a rolling basis, so students can apply at any point and applications will be processed within a week or so of their completion.

A limited number of scholarships are available to students who otherwise could not afford to participate. Students are generally considered eligible for assistance if their parents' combined income is less than $50,000 and they have few other assets.

Visit the National Geographic website for details, program guidelines and an application form. Or see the general admission guidelines.

The deadline for scholarships is March 1, 2012.
