Close to 200 students, parents and staff at Sam Houston High School got into the dancing mood on Friday, September 28 by taking part in a "Gangnam Style" flash mob led by Sam Houston MSTC Principal Jane Crump. Local news crews and their helicopters showed up at 6:45 a.m. to capture the event, building on the success of the district's own "Gangnam Style" video which encourages Houstonians to register to vote, to vote early, and to finish the ballot. In less than 48 hours, the video has had over 21,000 hits on YouTube. You can watch the entire video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/theHISD.

Sam Houston MSTC students and others across the district have been working hard to spread the word about the importance of voter registration. On September 24 and 25 the district, along with Univision 45, hosted the first district-wide voter registration drive at all participating high schools. The effort was successful and resulted in 1,005 registered voters. Sam Houston MSTC took the top honor in the drive by registering close to 200 eligible voters on their campus within just two days.

We want anyone who's eligible to vote in the November 6 election to take control of their future and go to the polls. We encourage you to register to vote (do it soon as the deadline is fast approaching) and to vote early beginning October 22.

We're also asking for your help in getting out the vote. Make sure your friends see this video at http://www.youtube.com/theHISD by tweeting it (we're using the #VoteEarly hashtag and you can tag us with @HoustonISD), posting it to Facebook or Tumblr and liking it on YouTube.
