Davis High School Kicks Off Early Voting with Community Parade
October 22, 2012
What: Hundreds of students, parents, alumni and community members will be participating in Davis High School’s parade to kick off early voting and promote the importance of participating in the electoral process. Davis’ marching band, cheerleaders, mariachi, students and ROTC will be leading the parade from Davis High School to Holy Name Catholic Church (1917 Cochran Street). The parade will also include students and staff from the nearby HISD schools, as well as parents who will be driving their decorated cars in the parade. Upon arriving at Holy Name Catholic Church, one of the newest voting polls in the area, students who vote on site will be given ‘I Voted Early’ stickers.
To encourage the community’s participation in the parade, Davis’ students will be hosting a phone bank on Friday in conjunction with Mi Familia Vota to call more than 1,500 registered voters in the area to invite them to the parade and inform them on the importance of participating in the electoral process.
