HISD has partnered with the Consumer Energy Alliance and more than half a dozen other organizations to “generate” student interest in energy-related activities throughout the year.
The Energy Capital Academic Program (ECAP) will offer students in grades K–12 incentives for participating in and attending five of the eight energy-related events and competitions taking place throughout the year in the Houston area, including:
- Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (April 7–9, 2011)
- National C-STEM Challenge (April 16, 2011)
- Energize! Houston (April 30, 2011)
- Energy City of the Future 2050 (.pdf) (May 13, 2011)
- CEA/HMNS Energy & Conservation Club Challenges (May, June and September 2011)
Winners of the ECAP competition will receive an award and recognition at Energy Day on October 15, 2011. Participation will be tracked online. Students must sign in at the Energy Day booth at each ECAP event in order to receive credit for attending, and must be present at Energy Day to receive an award.
Other participating organizations include: the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston, C-STEM Teacher and Student Support Services, the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, the Cooperative for After-School Enrichment, Houston Museum of Natural Science, the University of Houston, and the Harris County Department of Education.
