Parents in attendance say event was very helpful in finding best fit for their children

More than 80 different schools were showcased at HISD’s inaugural School Choice Fair, held Saturday, April 30, at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center.
Hundreds of parents and students visited with representatives from schools offering magnet, International Baccalaureate, vanguard, college preparatory, and Montessori programs, to name just a few.
"Parents were able to look at phenomenal programs, fill out applications on the spot, and start the processing so that their children can start at their new school in August," said HISD Assistant Superintendent of School Choice Lupita Hinojosa.
Mother of two, Amy Gentry, was grateful for the event. "I had a school selected for my son, but I was struggling on where to send my daughter for middle school," said Gentry. "We met with several schools at the fair that will be a good fit for her next year. This fair was more than helpful."
HISD plans to hold more fairs in the future to help parents and students navigate the school choice process at HISD.
