HISD will hold its annual Parental Involvement Day Celebration on Thursday, November 17, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Delmar Stadium Field House (2020 Mangum St., 77092; adjacent to the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center).

The Parental Involvement Day Celebration recognizes the role of parents as their children’s first teachers and offers fresh approaches to supporting their children’s educational and personal growth. Attendees will receive information on programs such as the Parent Prep Academy, Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), Health and Wellness, Multilingual Services, Magnet Programs, College and Career Counseling, and more.

“Learning flourishes when parents are active,” said HISD Superintendent of Schools Terry B. Grier. “We want more of our parents engaged in our HISD schools.”

“The Parent Engagement Department honors parents who have spent many hours on campuses helping all of our students obtain success in school. Our parents are our partners and we’d like to celebrate their accomplishments annually,” said Kelly Cline, HISD’s Senior Manager of Parental Engagement. “We encourage all family members who play a vital role in education to join us on November 17.”

Community partners for the event include the Houston Public Library, Houston Fire Department, the Fine Arts and Museum districts, and many others.

National Parental Involvement Day is also on November 17, 2011.
