Attend Third Annual Top Tier University Presentation October 11

Special session for parents and students starts at 6:00 p.m.

October 04, 2011

For the third year in a row, HISD’s College, Career, and Counseling Department has invited admission representatives from some of the nation’s top universities—including Cornell, Harvard, and Vanderbilt—to participate in a roundtable discussion with district personnel and to give a panel presentation to parents.

Both events will be held at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center (4400 W. 18th Street, 77092) in the board auditorium on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.

Principals, college access coordinators, and counselors will attend a daytime meeting from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., but Superintendent of Schools Terry B. Grier is extending a special invitation to parents and students to attend a session geared especially towards them from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Topics expected to be covered include:
Student Profiles: What characteristics are universities looking for among entering freshman? What pre-college course work is recommended?
Scholarships/Financial Aid: What financial resources are available? How can these resources be accessed?
Additional Information: Where can students and parents obtain details on application requirements, deadlines, campus tours, visits, etc.?

Questions may be directed to the College, Career, and Counseling Department at 713-556-7196.
