75 Students at Foerster Elementary Win New Bikes
The bikes reward students for having perfect attendance this school year
December 02, 2011
Fourth-grader Timothy Tillotson planned to spend the rest of Friday riding his brand new bike.
Timothy and 74 other Foerster Elementary School students won brand new bikes Friday, December 2, for having perfect attendance this school year.
“It’s perfect,” Timothy said. “I feel really lucky. I was crossing my hands and hoping and I got one. I feel really special.”
The names of more than 100 students with perfect attendance were put into a pot and 75 students scored new bikes, which were donated by ABC Dental.
ABC Dental President and CEO Iraj Jabbary said he loved seeing the kids with their new bikes.
“The way they smile it makes me feel like I got paid for everything,” he said. “They are so happy.”
At the end of the school day, all the children gathered in the gym for the event, which kicked off with a 70s-style dance party. The party atmosphere was fun for all the kids, even the ones who didn’t get to take home new bikes, said Foerster Elementary Secretary Gwendolyn Nicks.
“They had a great time,” she said. “It was nice to see the children rewarded for perfect attendance. Coming to school for the first 70 days is sometimes a great effort for them, so it was wonderful to see them rewarded for their hard work.”
