  • 6,205 industry-based certifications earned in 2022-2023 In 2021-2022, students earned 5,070 IBCs, a 70% increase from 2020-2021.
  • Majority of graduates enrolling in college More than half of the Class of 2021 enrolled in postsecondary institutions after graduating.
  • 85% of seniors complete FAFSA 85 percent of seniors advised by CCMR completed a FAFSA/TASFA, and 90 percent of seniors advised by CCMR applied to a college.
  • Dual enrollment expands to 15 campuses Our UT OnRamps dual enrollment program has grown to 15 campuses - with participation more than doubling, from 429 to 950 students.
  • Record number of AP Capstone diplomas earned And a record number of AP Capstone diplomas were earned: 142. These students complete two, year-long programs - Research and Seminar - and score 3 or higher on 4 AP exams.
  • 70% increase in IB programme certificates For students taking IB exams, 50.6 percent scored 3 or higher - equating to $1.8 million in free college tuition Students earned 167 career-related programme certificates - a 70 percent increase from the prior school year.

ABOUT OUR WORK

  • The Office of College, Career & Military Readiness (CCMR) empowers students to succeed through advising, rigorous learning environments, and life-changing experiences with colleges, industry partners, and the military. This office includes three departments located at Houston ISD's central office at Hattie Mae White, the East Field Office, the Barbara Jordan Career Center, and several high school campuses across the district. 

  • College Readiness

    College Readiness works closely with elementary, middle, and high school campuses to create and maintain a college-bound culture throughout the district, connecting students and parents with counselors, advisors, and every part of the college preparation and application process. Key initiatives include Launch College & Career Readiness Advisors, Project Explore (middle school and elementary school advising) and AVID, a college- readiness support program. 

    Career Readiness

    Career Readiness prepares students for the world of work, instilling in students a sense of who they are, with an alignment of purpose/passion that enables them to enter the workforce after high school. Key initiatives include Career Technical Education (CTE), the Barbara Jordan Career Center, and JROTC.

    Postsecondary

    Postsecondary Programming is committed to providing the highest quality access and opportunity to all HISD students by increasing the number of students graduating college-ready and making all coursework options for earning college credit in high school more accessible. Key initiatives include Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programming; dual credit, PTECH & UT Onramps; and EMERGE.

  • Career & Resources Fair | June 10th 2023 | Call for youth 16-24

    The City of Houston’s Hire Houston Youth program in partnership with Workforce Solutions is offering a Career & Resources Fair to connect youth and young adults ages 16 – 24 looking for summer employment and resources/programming.

  • Two Northside HS Students Receive the Motiva Scholarship

    Two seniors from Northside High School attended a scholarship ceremony in Port Arthur to accept their award from MOTIVA. Motiva awards $2,500 scholarships to seniors interested in a career in the energy industry. They provide financial assistance to graduating seniors who plan to pursue a degree in a STEM-related field and have exhibited outstanding academic achievement, active involvement in the community and school, and leadership skills.

  • Rice University to Host HISD students for Calc Squared Programming

    If students are interested in taking Calculus next year, HISD students can sign up for a FREE Calculus summer camp at Rice University.  They can register today for “Calc Squared” at https://bit.ly/calcsquared2023.   • Twenty young women of Jack Yates Senior Class each receive scholarships

    In 1902, twelve ladies of Houston’s elite Black society founded The Married Ladies Social, Art and Charity Club to improve the social welfare of its members and the community. Ms. Geraldine Thompson, a member of this organization and a Jack Yates 1957 Alumn, recently sold the organization’s property and wanted part of the funds to be given back to young women of Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern University and Jack Yates High School. Twenty young women of Jack Yates senior class received a $500 scholarship today.
