The HISD College Readiness Department, which is under the division of College and Career Readiness, is committed to providing higher education access to all HISD students and works closely with campuses and district departments to create and maintain a college-bound culture throughout the district. Starting in elementary school, students and parents are highly encouraged to take charge of their learning, connect with others about post-secondary education, and dive into preparing for college early.

LAUNCH TEAMS

LAUNCH Grade 9 - 11

This team will provide direct support to earlier grade levels to positively impact postsecondary enrollment. Students will explore interests and strengths earlier, connecting them to long-term goals and translating those long-term goals to long-term plans with actionable steps.

On February 27th the College Readiness Department hosted its monthly College Readiness Institution at the HCC Southeast campus.

B.T. Washington Visits UTSA

Roughly 40 juniors ventured to The University of Texas at San Antonio to tour the campus and hear more about what UTSA has to offer. Students were impressed with the amount of diversity on the campus and few had ventured outside of Houston to visit colleges. Being able to see a very different type of campus atmosphere than they had seen in Houston was valued.

Houston Hispanic Forum Career & Education Day

At HHF Career and Education Day 2/16/19, participants attended high-impact sessions on prospective careers and career fields. Visited with both local and national college representatives. Received hands-on financial aid assistance.
