• Dear Students,

We appreciate your participation in the OECD Study on Social and Emotional Skills! Here are some things you should know:

    • You were chosen randomly to take this survey. It’s as if the names of all 10 and some 11-year-olds (or 15 and 16-year-olds) at your school were put in a hat, and your name was one of the ones pulled from the hat. Everyone had an equal chance of being picked, and you happen to have been picked.

    • You will complete the survey at your school on a computer or iPad.

    • Houston is the only location in the United States that is participating in this study. Students in 9 other countries around the world will take this same survey. In the U.S., it is offered in English or Spanish.

    • A survey is not a test. Sometimes it’s called a questionnaire. This survey asks questions about your thoughts, opinions, and ideas about your social and emotional skills – your behaviors and how you think and feel about certain things in your life, both at school and at home.

    • All information collected will be kept strictly confidential – meaning no one, not even your friends, parents, or teachers, will be able to see how you answer the questions

    • In this survey, there are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers. Your answers should be the ones that are ‘right’ for you. Every person is different, so everyone’s answers will be different.

Thank you for your time, participation, and valuable input!

thank you
