Quick Checklist

  • Thank you for supporting the orderly and timely movement of student records!  This is legally-mandated responsibility, in addition to being a critical support for our students.

    1. Create Account in TEAL

    2. Request TREx access within TEAL for your campus

    3. Complete & submit "TREx access in SIS" form

    4. Learn through the TREx Modules online (1 hour)


  • Texas Records Exchange or TREx is the name for the electronic student record system required by House Bill 1 since 2006. The state education code (TEC Sec. 7.010) requires that electronic student records be sent within 10 working days of the request. 

    To access the TREx application, you must have an established account on "TEAL". 

    Here are the first steps you'll need to take:

    1. Visit the TEAL website at https://tealprod.tea.state.tx.us/
      1. Create a new account linked to your HISD email address. Do not under any circumstances link this account to any other email address.
      2. Or choose "Forgot your password" and "Forgot your username" to recover an existing account.
    2. Once you're in, click the “My Application Accounts” link on the left side of the screen
    3. In the larger center field, where accounts are listed, there should be a “Request New Account…” button – click that button.
    4. Scroll down in the pop-up list and click the “TREx” link.
    5. Follow the directions through to the submission of the request (you need “Campus Registrar” access for your campus).
    6. District staff will review and approve your campus access to the TREx application.

    You may need to transfer your TREx access from your previous campus to your new location. If that's the case, please email TRAVIS HUNT with your TEAL username, your previous campus, and your new campus and be sure to CC your principal.  You can find his email address in the HISD central directory. 

Request TREx Access in SIS

  • The form can be found on multiple HISD sites, but it is posted here as a fillable PDF for your convenience. This form must be completed if you are new to HISD, if you are new to the job, or if you are new to the specific campus.

    Download the form, complete all the fields, print it, sign it in ink (not Adobe Sign or DocuSign), and get your principal's signature in ink. Make sure you check all the boxes needed for your role(s) at your campus, not just the TREx box.

    Then you can use the RICOH machine at your campus to SCAN TO PDF. Email it to yourself and also to SISsecurity@houstonisd.org.
