• Quality Instruction (QI) Conference @ NRG

    Important Information 

    • For NRG (Quality Instruction Conference) - Parking is free on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
      • Gates open at 7:00 AM.
      • Enter using Gates 3, 4, 9, and 10. Parking is in the Orange Lot.

    • HISD Park-and-Ride shuttles are available. Refer below for shuttle sites.  The buses will depart at the end of the last session, at 4:15 pm.
    • New hires may not have a HISD ID badge. They can bring a copy of any HISD document (i.e. HR hire letter) referencing their name.
    • HISD badges must be displayed for current employees at all sites.
    • Employees should bring their own lunch/snacks, on both days of the 2-day QI Conference.

    Audience

    Required:

    • ALL Teachers (Core Content, Core Enrichment, Special Populations, etc.)
    • ALL Teachers (including staff from NES, NES-A, and staff from non-NES campuses)
    • K-8 campus teachers should attend the days for their applicable grade level: K-5 in Elementary and 6-8 in Secondary.

    Not Required:

    • Hourly or contract DYAD employees are not required to attend.
    • Campus Administrators and other non-Teacher employees (e.g., Nurses, Counselors) are not required to attend.

    Training Agenda

    • Below is the training schedule overview for the Quality Instruction (QI) Conference. Check back before each conference day for updated information.
    • The training is conference-style, where teachers will select the topics for sessions to attend each day.
    • Teachers should attend 6-7 sessions to include Teacher Evaluation Systems.
    • The order of training topics does not matter.
    • If a session is full, select a different room. The facilitator will close the door and place a "Session Full" sign on the door.

    NOTE: There will be multiple sessions occurring concurrently for the same topics. Please do not squeeze into the room.

    Registration

    • Teachers will be auto-enrolled in the QI conference.
    • Registration confirmations will be emailed to all participants by August 9, 2023. Participants should print the confirmation or have it available on their phones on each conference day.
      • If an employee does not receive a QI conference confirmation please attend on the dates intended for your grade level (Elementary: August 14 and 15, Secondary: August 17 and 18). 
    • Attendance is required.
    • All attendees MUST wear their  HISD/school ID badge visibly to be seen. ID badges will be scanned for registration.
    • New-hires may not be auto-enrolled, depending on processing timeframes. New-hires should still attend the QI conference sessions. New-hires should print or bring a copy of their HISD hire email (from HR or Principal) in lieu of HISD ID badge or registration confirmation.
    • Other school instructional staff wishing to attend should register on OneSource Learning for course ID [forthcoming].

    Know Before You Go

    • Attendance is required.
    • Attire is business casual/comfortable.
      • Tennis or comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. You can represent your school by wearing school shirts.
      • Bring a sweater/jacket if needed for air-conditioned rooms.
    • Plan your travel route before the conference day and consider traffic.
    • All attendees MUST wear your HISD/School ID badge visibly to be seenLocate your ID badge and place it in a location to take each morning,
    • ID badges will be scanned for registration.
    • Review information on parking, meals, and conference resources to prepare accordingly.
    • Participants should bring their personal "tool kit" for use during training.
    • Participants can bring a water bottle to refill and lite snacks, as desired.
    • Technology is not needed during the sessions. 
    • There are limited power outlets in the training rooms. You may consider having a fully charged phone or bringing a portable charging bank, if needed.
    • Training rooms for break-out sessions will vary in style – e.g., large session vs. smaller room, roundtable seating vs. theatre-style seating.

    • NRG Center is located at 1 Fannin St, Houston, TX 77054.

    • Parking options include:
      • Self-parking at NRG Center will be available. (no fee; show HISD badge for parking tag; no in/out privileges).
      • NOTE: Plan time and travel accordingly to be on time for sessions beginning at 8:30 am. Consider traffic and wait lines in the parking lot. Pack your patience for the natural wait time needed to move cars safely out of the parking lot at the end of the day.

      • HISD security will monitor cars at athletic fieldhouses.
      • There will be a shuttle bus at NRG Center for emergency transport to cars between 8:30 am - 1:00 pm.

    Meals

    • Water stations are available all day. Cups are provided or fill your water bottle.
    • Coffee or other morning snacks/meals are not provided. Plan your morning meal or coffee needs accordingly. Participants may bring a drink thermos with a hot/cold beverage.
    • Lunch breaks are 1 hour each day.
      • Aramark will have food vendors in Hall C and food trucks will be located outside the venue.
      • Participants may bring their own lunch and snacks in a self-contained carry bag.
      • There is no access to refrigerators or microwaves.
      • Seating for lunch can be in various locations: Hall C "Cafeteria" with round tables, outside benches, hallway seating, or training rooms.

    Resources

    • The conference packet provided will include the agenda, note pages for your selected sessions, and detachable "response cards."
    • Training PowerPoints will be emailed to attendees through the OneSource auto-notification at the end of each training day.
    • Wi-Fi is available at NRG Center only in the general hallway areas. Wi-Fi is not available in the training rooms.
