School Leadership Selection Process

  • The Campus Leadership Pipeline is for individuals aspiring to become Principals, Assistant Principals, Deans of Students, or Deans of Instructions.

    If you are interested in applying for other specialized campus leadership positions (e.g. instructional coordinator, magnet coordinator, counselor, etc), please refer to those postings on our Careers page.

    The Principal Pipeline Pool:
    This pool is for internal and external candidates that are ready to take on leadership as an HISD Principal. Opportunities include all school levels – elementary, middle, and high school. Candidates for this position demonstrate a heart and passion for leadership, show strong self-esteem, and possess courage and persistence of one’s convictions.

    Principal candidates must have a master’s degree, principal or mid-management certification, at least three (3) years of Assistant Principal or Dean experience, and at least three (3) years of exemplary teaching experience.

    The Assistant Principal/Dean Pipeline Pool (including Deans of Students and Deans of Instruction):
    This pool is for internal and external candidates that are ready to assist the Principal in providing overall leadership, encourages a positive and safe climate in the schools, and identifies quality people and inspires excellence in them. Applicants with questions related to Assistant Principal Leadership can direct all inquires to CampusLeadership@houstonISD.org.

    Assistant Principal candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (a master’s degree is strongly preferred), principal or mid-management certification or the ability to obtain such certification, at least three (3) years of exemplary teaching experience, and demonstrated leadership experience on the campus.

    How to Apply for a Leadership Position:

    1. Visit the HISD Careers site and create an account. Make sure to include the names and addresses of at least 3 (three) references. You must include your former/current supervisor (school based persons should use the Principal, or immediate supervisor). Include e-mail addresses with the contact information.
     
    2. Complete the online application and submit a cover letter. Once you have completed the online application, you will receive a notice with instructions on the next step.
