Houston Endowment has pledged $6 million to the Houston Independent School District’s innovative program to turn around 20 schools in need of transformation.

Houston Endowment’s three-year grant to the HISD Foundation in support of Apollo 20 doubles the amount of private support previously committed to the program, bringing the total to $12 million.

“Education leaders throughout America are desperate for a practical, research-based plan with a genuine chance to lead our most troubled schools to excellence,” said Houston Endowment President Larry R. Faulkner. “Houston Endowment is betting on HISD and Superintendent Terry Grier. Apollo 20 gives us hope that a solution to this long-unsolved problem may be in sight.”
