This online module was developed by the Low Incidence Statewide Network to provide guidance to teachers working with students with significant cognitive delays. The training will focus on how to bring all the pieces together so that instruction is aligned to the TEKS, assessment and the IEP, in order to prepare students for STAAR ALT and life!
Asperger 101 Online
This course is an overview of many of the issues that we see in students with Asperger Syndrome. Information related to diagnosis and the key features of Asperger Syndrome are presented including: social interaction, language, restricted interests, dealing with change, motor involvement, cognitive issues, sensory processing emotional vulnerability and the gifts of Asperger Syndrome. In addition, you will review some intervention strategies and accommodations that may be needed in schools, including tools to help organize the school day.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication and the Autism Spectrum
In this online training, you will learn ways to support communication for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Some individuals have speech, but it may not be effective. Others may not have any speech and exhibit behaviors, appropriate or inappropriate, to communicate. These individuals might benefit from supports and/or tools called Augmentative and Alternative Communication or AAC.
Autism 101: Top Ten Pieces to the Puzzle
This course provides information the components of autism spectrum disorders. In this online course, participants will be able to define the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders and identify evidence-based strategies to address the behavioral, social and communication needs of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

In this course, you will learn: the complexities of social interaction; play as a key developmental indicator; strategies for teaching and learning the rules of social interaction; the power of practicing with peers to learn how to follow these rules; and assessment for implementing social skills instruction.

The National Professional Development Center (NPDC) on Autism Spectrum Disorders was the primary source for the information presented in the DVDs.
