Homeless & Foster Care

  • Our Homeless and Foster Care Department has become an extension of our Sunrise Centers, bringing resources closer to students. Across all seven sites, we're dedicated to supporting students with essential resources and basic needs, ensuring their success both in and out of the classroom.
     
    The education provisions of the McKinney-Vento Act, which are now incorporated within Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), ensure educational rights and protection for children and youth experiencing homelessness. The law directly applies to homeless unaccompanied youth who also receive some special attention within the Act. 
     
    The mission of Houston I.S.D.'s Homeless Education Office is to assist students and families that are living in a homeless situation or that are in transition.
