  • House Bill (HB) 3 was passed by the 86th Texas Legislature, 2019, and signed into law by Governor Abbott on June 11, 2019. A key new requirement in HB 3 is that school districts are responsible to ensure that all kindergarten-third grade teachers and principals in Texas will need to have completed a Texas Reading Academy by the end of the 2022-2023 school year.

The Houston Independent School District has been approved by the Texas Education Agency to offer the Texas Reading Academy trainings and will begin implementing trainings during the summer of 2020.
