HISD Migrant Education Program

  • Purpose of the MEP: To help migrant students overcome the challenges of mobility, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, and other difficulties associated with a migratory life, in order to succeed in school, and to successfully transition to post-secondary education or employment.

    Services Provided for Qualified Students:

    • School supplies and uniform clothing vouchers (depending on the availability of funds
    • Parent meetings
    • Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
    • Service coordination for migrant children aged 3-21
    • Coordination with other summer programs
    • Monitoring of academic achievement
    • Summer enrichment programs for elementary and secondary students

    For high school students (grades 9-12), the following are available:

    • University of Texas at Austin correspondence classes
    • Online and credit-by-exam courses
    • Migrant scholarships
    • College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)
