HISD Migrant Education Program

Purpose of the MEP: To help migrant students overcome the challenges of mobility, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, and other difficulties associated with a migratory life, in order to succeed in school, and to successfully transition to post-secondary education or employment.
Services Provided for Qualified Students:
- School supplies and uniform clothing vouchers (depending on the availability of funds
- Parent meetings
- Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
- Service coordination for migrant children aged 3-21
- Coordination with other summer programs
- Monitoring of academic achievement
- Summer enrichment programs for elementary and secondary students
For high school students (grades 9-12), the following are available:
- University of Texas at Austin correspondence classes
- Online and credit-by-exam courses
- Migrant scholarships
- College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)
