Addressing the Safety and Security Committee

  • The Safety and Security Committee of the Houston Independent School District welcomes members of the community to speak about subjects on the agenda for the committee meeting at which the community member is speaking.

    The Hattie Mae White (HMW) Educational Support Center is open and observing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. 


    Each meeting notice contains a link for viewing that specific meeting. Instructions for how to use the links are:


    Speakers should submit written comments to be read publicly by a member of the district’s administration. Speakers should also leave a telephone number when registering in case there are questions.

    To submit written comments, speakers should send an email to, beginning after a meeting notice is posted and ending at 3:00 p.m. the day before the meeting. Comments will be read aloud during the meeting exactly as typed.

    In addition, ALL handouts must be emailed to no later than 3:00 p.m. the day before the meeting.

    The rules regarding comments are the same as if the meeting were held in person.

    • TIME LIMIT: As with HISD board meetings, speakers are limited to up to two minutes, regardless of the number of items for which they have registered. NOTE: Two minutes is approximately 300 words.
    • Stay on topic and refrain from naming individuals, especially students, as their identity is protected under law.
    • No abusive statements or threats of confrontation are permitted.
