Office of School ChoiceSchool Choice is responsible for all HISD Magnet programs; "Magnet" is the designation given to all specialized, quality integrated programs. The department is involved in the design, development, and implementation of new, expanded, and modified Magnet programs and provides support services to 113 of them. A broad range of support services helps to ensure that the multi-cultural student population has quality offerings available.
The Magnet Department also plans and executes a community awareness campaign and student recruitment activities to ensure that all students have equal access to the programs. It is also responsible for two Outdoor Education Centers, which provide district-wide interdisciplinary instruction.
The Renzulli Learning Differentiation Engine TM puts students in touch with engaging, individualized resources specially chosen for their interest areas and learning styles. www.renzullilearning.comDuke Talent Search ProgramThis program identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities.
