• National Junior Honor Society Induction

    On January 18, 2013 the Luther Burbank Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society had its Annual Induction Ceremony in the school cafeteria. The ceremony began promptly at 5:00 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by remarks from the Chaper Adviser, Mrs. Elyse Brown and opening greetings from Principal Hernandez.

    The ceremony proceeded with the traditional ceremony of the candles. This ceremony entails having the National Junior Honor Society officers light a candle and read a description of the five qualities that a NJHS students possesses: Citizenship, Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. Each candle is lit using the fire from the one symbolic candle of wisdom.

    After the readings, Mrs. Amanda Vasquez, a faculty member of the selection committee, came up to the podium and called on the new members to come to the table to receive their certificate, membership card and pin, and to sign their names in the Chapter Log Book.

    Once all new members had signed, they stood up to recite the National Junior Honor Society Pledge and thus be officially inducted in the Society. Parents, friends, and faculty who were present gave the new members a long round of applause to celebrate this very important event in their lives.

    Following the ceremony, all present enjoyed a dinner of breaded butterfly shrimp, fried rice, Caesar salad and dinner rolls, accompanied by a scrumptious piece of chocolate cake served by our volunteers Mrs. Pickett, Mrs. Perret, Mrs. Lott, Ms. Rosa, and some of our Cheerleaders.
