NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY 

Last Friday, February 11, 2022, Burbank Middle School celebrated its annual NJHS Induction Ceremony in the school's auditorium. The event took place in person with guests limited to immediate family only. It was recorded by Burbank's Media Team and will also feature in The Burbank Show. Burbank's Media Team is sponsored by our Tech teacher, Mr. Luviano.

The traditional candle ceremony was held with the current NJHS officers reading the qualities expected of members of the society which are scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship. After each description was read, they proceeded to light a ceremonial candle. The 2021-2022 NJHS Officers are:

• Osvaldo Ortega, President
• Andrea Ortega, Vice-President
• Evelyn Gonzalez, Secretary
• Anthony Lopez, Treasurer
• Lorenzo Carranza, Historian
• Leilani Palacios, Parlamentarian

After the candle ceremony was over, Ms. Dulce Mancillas, NJHS sponsor, read out loud each new member's name. As they heard their name, the new members came up to the stage where they received their membership card and signed the memory book. Ms. Mancillas was assisted in the selection of the new members as well as in the distribution of membership cards by the NJHS selection committee, which was made up of the following faculty members: Ms. Tatiana Malik, Dr. Alexandra Ortiz, Ms. Meghan Grout, and Mr. Juan Monsiváis. Once every new member had received their card and signed the book, all members stood and recited the NJHS pledge. 

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year's dinner was a "grab and go" affair. There were boxed dinners and cupcakes for the inductees and their families to enjoy at home.

Ms. Mancillas and the Selection Committee would like to thank Ms. Vasquez, Ms. Cano, and Ms. Rodarte who helped with the decorations and were present to welcome parents and distribute the dinner boxes. They would also like to thank the custodians who not only set up the auditorium, but also donated the cupcakes for the event!
