• VANGUARD BANQUET
    2016

Houston venue "Hacienda Bella Terra" was the scene of a very happy occasion last May 20th. The Vanguard Academy got together to celebrate the many achievements of the school year. Parents, students, teachers, and special guests enjoyed a delicious dinner and the music of our very own band students who delighted us with solo performances. Mr. Glenn and Ms. Kovacic were on hand to provide their students with moral support as well as piano accompaniment.

Former Houston Constable Mr. Adrián García was our guest speaker. In his remarks, he shared with us his experiences as a Hispanic student growing up in Texas. He urged our students to always be proud of their heritage, whichever that may be, to always try to do their best, and to bring honor to their families.

After Mr. Garcia's remarks, the cluster leaders of our Vanguard and Dual Language Academies came to the front to call on the awards recipients. Ms. Jennings and Ms. Boswell were also on hand to congratulate the winners.

Our Principal, Mr. David Knittle arrived just after the last of the awards was distributed. He had to attend the Teacher of the Year banquet for the district, but he was able to address our Vanguard students and their parents to let them know how much he appreciated their hard work and enthusiasm. Mrs. Rosa Hernandez, our former principal and current HISD School Director, also came over to say hello and congratulate her former teachers and students.

Following Mr. Knittle's speech, our Vanguard Coordinator Ms. Cortina closed the formal portion of the evening and everyone was able to enjoy dancing with friends and family to the music of our DJ. Salsa, hip hop, rancheras: all music styles were represented to the delight of teachers, parents, and students. What a great way to close such a successful year!
