Our HISD district competition will be held on March 4th this year at Young Women's College Preparatory Academy, 1906 Cleburne St, Houston, TX 77004. Registration opens at noon January 10, 2023. Registration closes on February 11th at 11:59 PM. Paper and website projects will need to be submitted into the system by the February 11th deadline. Awards will be announced on Saturday, March 4th. Our HISD History Day page can be found at HoustonISD.org/HistoryDay and includes numerous teacher and student resources.
Houston ISD is excited to support and coordinate with the 2022-2023 Texas History Day competition, an affiliate of National History Day. NHD gives students in grades K through 12 the opportunity to act as historians. HISD Social Studies teachers and students are encouraged to incorporate NHD components into their teaching. NHD expectations strongly align with HISD disciplinary practices. For example, primary document analysis is a critical component in NHD, Social Studies TEKS, and AP Social Studies. Research expresses that NHD students “outperform their non-NHD peers on state standardized tests in multiple subjects…” (NHD Executive Summary). If your school would like to participate in or learn more about our HISD History Day competition, please get in touch with Rebecca Rice and visit texashistoryday.org. Ms. Rice can guide you and your team through the very rewarding research and presentation expectations.
