The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) provides important information about student achievement and learning experiences in various subjects. Also known as The Nation’s Report Card, NAEP has provided meaningful results to improve education policy and practice since 1969. Results are available for the nation, states, and 27 urban districts.

NAEP is a congressionally mandated program that is overseen and administered by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences. The National Assessment Governing Board, an independent body appointed by the Secretary of Education, sets NAEP policy.

NAEP is administered online with specified campuses selected to participate in NAEP testing in a given year. The school list can be found at the link below.

The 2024-2025 administration of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) will take place between January 27 and March 7, 2025. Students will be assessed in mathematics, reading, or science, with each student participating in only one subject area. The NAEP 2024-2025 consists of the following two primary assessment programs:

• State-Level Assessments
  • Grades 4 and 8: Mathematics and reading
• National Assessments and Pilots
  • Grades 4 and 8: Mathematics and reading pilots
  • Grade 8: Science assessments
  • Grade 12: Mathematics and reading assessments with High School Transcript Study

National and state-level results will be released as The Nation’s Report Card.
