    Think Pink Challenge 2016

As it has happened for the past six years, our 6th grade counselor Ms. Susan Avila, has led the fundraiser to help fight breast cancer through the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation. Each grade level participates in different activities such as bake and cookie sales and ribbon sales. The event ran from October 10th through October 21st. After every penny had been counted, the grand total raised this year was : $3,800.67

On November 2, 2016, Ms. Inez Jackson from the Susan G. Komen Foundation visited our cafeteria where she was presented with a huge symbolic check on behalf of the students at Burbank Middle School. Especially to be commended are the sixth graders, who finished first, and the seventh graders, who finished a close second. Their respective assistant principals, Ms. Cisneroz and Ms. Jennings, were on hand to present the check together with representatives of each grade level. Ms. Jackson was very happy to receive our donation and assured us that more than 70% of the money raised in Houston stays in Houston. It is the policy of the Komen Foundation to direct the money raised to the communities from where it came. In addition, 82% of the money raised is used to fund research, education, and breast cancer screenings. Well done, Burbank students!
