The KickStartKids Karate Program at Burbank Middle School continues to excel wherever it goes. At the moment, it has more than 220 students participating. A great number of those students not only take Karate lessons every week as part of their curriculum, but are also part of the Demo Team that stays after school to practice and participates in all school activities and programs. Look for them in the pictures of Family Nights and other events. The team also participates in the two main qualifying tournaments per year and every other event sponsored by KSK.

Students who are enrolled in our KSK Program take tests every semester to evaluate their progress in their acquisition of karate skills. If they demonstrate proficiency, they advance to the next level and are given the corresponding belt in a ceremony which is celebrated twice a year. This Karate Belt Ceremony is a tradition at Burbank and takes place at night. Students, parents, and faculty are invited to attend. All KSK Karate students participate, giving a demonstration of their skills in the school auditorium.

For the past three years, Burbank's KSK Karate students have participated in the World Championship Tournament which is held each year in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year's event took place in July, 2014, and just like in the past three years, Burbank's students earned several World Championship trophies. In fact, this year Burbank Middle School earned the title of School of the Year and was so honored with a commemorative plaque which proudly hangs in our school's main office.

I feel privileged and blessed to be working with such a fine group of youngsters. I am confident that together we will continue to bring success and honors to our school.
